I recently graduated (March 2025) with a Multicultural Marketing Graduate Certificate from the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). It’s been an incredible journey, and I wanted to share some insights into my experience.

My passion for multiculturalism has always been a driving force in my career, especially as I’ve used my language skills (Spanish) in both community work and marketing campaigns. Multicultural Marketing is a niche area that’s not often discussed, so I had a hard time finding many institutions that offered relevant programs. The closest I could find was a Graduate Certificate, so I went for it!
Out of all the universities in the U.S., I found only two offering this program. I applied to both, and while the first option offered in-person classes with promises to accommodate me through Zoom, the lack of communication and follow-through made the process feel unworthy of my time. The second option, UMGC, was a game-changer. The communication was outstanding, and the technology they provided made everything run smoothly. I was assigned a success coach who responded promptly, and there was even a chat feature within my portal for quick questions, available 7 days a week.
The classes were all 8 weeks long, which I loved. I took two classes at a time, and thanks to a transfer credit from my previous master's degree at Temple University (MS in Digital Innovation in Marketing), I completed the certificate in just two semesters! The courses were entirely asynchronous, meaning I worked on my own schedule—something I found refreshing after having in-person & virtual classes times for my other degrees.
I graduated with a 4.0, and I’m beyond thrilled. I’m so grateful that Bank of America, my employer, offers tuition reimbursement for degrees like this. I’m proud to have this certificate under my belt and am excited to apply what I’ve learned to some unique multicultural marketing projects at work. Stay tuned!
